Our Investment Philosophy
Many years ago, a few years into my financial planning career, I realised that much of my university and post graduate finance studies had been buried beneath industry sales and marketing propaganda. Pick this fund over that fund, mix these with those, chop and change to keep in front of the curve. Essentially I had been sucked into a marketing machine focussed on transactions, short term performance and selling more funds. I was then asked ‘what do you believe in?’ in the context of investment. It made me reflect on my studies and it was not until then that I realised that I had lost my way.
Investment was ‘a competition’, it was about ‘winning’, about ‘performance’ or about ‘excitement’. At this time, I reflected upon what was going on as well as my studies, and developed and captured the philosophy that made sense to me. Since that time, the attached philosophy had been the foundation from which all investment conversations and recommendations are contemplated. I am happy to share it with you.
